Quillow Hedgehogs - Policies

When choosing to place a deposit, you are agreeing to all policies and are choosing to purchase a baby from us; timeline estimates are subject to change. We almost always have an extensive waitlist. 

Our hedgehogs will go to pet homes only (we work with established breeders only). We do not sell opposite sexes to pet homes. We cannot and will not sell hedgehogs to illegal states. It is currently known to us that it is illegal to own hedgehogs in the states of Maine, California, Georgia, Hawaii, and Pennsylvania as well as in the 5 Boroughs of New York City, Windsor, Ontario, and Langley, British Columbia.

We reserve the right to refuse to sell to anyone if we feel a hedgehog is not the right fit.

Visits

If you’d like an appointment to Meet & Greet our hedgies to help you make an ownership decision, there is a $35 fee to be paid via Zelle before the appointment time.

Estimated Timelines for Availability

We will quote an estimated timeline to the best of our ability. Dates are approximate and can change; sometimes by several weeks. All dates are subject to change. We have no control over nature.

When choosing to go with us, you are making the choice to have one of our babies, not a specific timeline or go home date.

Deposit Policies

You may place a deposit on future litters and secure a place on our VIP waitlist. Deposit price is $50. The deposit is non-refundable. The amount of your deposit will be deducted from the total price of your hedgehog. You will be given the balance you owe at pick up when choosing your hoglet. We take deposits through Zelle or cash only. No personal checks and no money orders. Cash for balance due at time of pickup! If you wish to pay by Zelle or other payment app it must be approved before pick up and there will be a 5% convenience fee added to the total paid.

We allow unlimited skips (for up to six months) on our deposited VIP waitlist, as we want you to find your perfect match. That said, if you choose and reserve a baby and later decide that you cannot, do not want to, etc., pick up that baby; your deposit is forfeited. A new deposit will be required if you wish to still get a baby from us.

Pricing

Pricing is listed here and on the available hedgehogs page/link as well.  Current pricing ranges from $200 for older babies and retirees to $375 (occasionally higher for rare or unusual colors or patterns). We can discuss your wants and budget.

Some other rare colors or markings may be priced higher. I do not guarantee prices until babies are 4-5 weeks old, i.e. at the time of reservation. We reserve the right to adjust the price (up or down) once the color is evident, but not after a reservation is made.

Notice: A hedgehog does not develop his true color until 6 months of age (after quilling - he will lose his baby quills and acquire his adult quills). We DO NOT guarantee color of any hedgehog!

Gifts

We do not sell baby hedgehogs as surprise gifts; it is important for new owners to be part of the process. That said, we do have ideas and will offer those if you have a gift timing planned (Pictures, Videos or Gift Cards for example); this will also help to involve the new owner in choosing their new pet.

Housing / Cage

Caging and heating set-ups must be approved by us before the pickup date. We do help you with recommendations and guide you with the process. If you use an unapproved cage or heating set-up; all health warranties are void. A care link will be sent upon receiving a deposit, sent several times during the process and will be posted in our VIP Facebook group. We do not recommend wire cages, use of a wire cage voids health warranties.

Pictures

We post baby pictures at 4-5 weeks of age and update at 5-6 weeks of age, and weekly until ready to go home.

Pickups

Pickups are by appointment only.  Please do not come before appointment time, as we may have another family here attending their go home class. If you are going to be more than 30 minutes late, please be respectful of our time and call me to let me know you will be running late, we may need to reschedule. You are picking up at our home, not a pet store. The pickup time is reserved for you (and your family) alone.

Pickup location will be provided when your hedgehog is ready to go home.

If you cannot pick up your baby within 3 days of the day it is able to go home arrangements must be made to pay for the hedgehog in full. If the hedgehog is not paid in full within those 3 days, he/she will be placed as available and your deposit will be forfeited. I will hold the hedgehog for 7 days after the day he/she is ready to go home if paid in full. After those 7 days $5/day boarding fee will apply.

What to Bring to Pick Up

-You must bring an appropriate carrier for transporting your sweet hedgehog baby home. The carrier should snap, zip, or lock closed.

-Government issued Driver's License or ID

 -Cash for Remaining Balance

-And Plan to have a great time learning about and playing with hedgies

Health

If you do not provide a picture of your cage and heat set up ALL health warranties are VOID. If you use products other than those recommended ALL health warranties are VOID. We spend a great deal of time and effort educating you for success with your new baby and it is one of the reasons you chose us. Please respect our recommendations.

We have a 6-month health guarantee on our hedgehogs for congenital defects. I will replace your hedgehog, at our discretion, if it dies within that time period and if a necropsy is provided by OSU (Oregon State University) stating that the hedgehog had a congenital problem (something it was born with or a hereditary problem). I will not replace a hedgehog if something happened to it due to negligence, injury, improper diet, or illness due to it not being taken care of properly. We are not responsible for any vet bills or necropsy costs. 

We also have a lifetime guarantee against WHS. We will replace your hedgehog if it dies from WHS. A vet necropsy from Oregon State University is required to honor this guarantee. In the event that you need to send your hedgehog for necropsy, call or text us for detailed instructions. Place your hedgehog in the refrigerator, do not freeze!

We are always available for hedgie questions, but are not licensed vets and do not provide such information. 

If you choose to feed "hedgehog" food, your health guarantee will be VOID! Hedgehog food is not nutritionally sound! There are often availability issues. Please do not feed it! Also, avoid foods with Peas in the first 5 ingredients.

Return Policies

If you decide after you get your hedgehog that it is not the right pet for you, please contact me, and I will take it and re home it. Please don't sell it! I don't want my babies to end up in the wrong hands. I am only doing this because I want what is best for them, and if you care about them, you would want what's best as well.

I will take one of our hedgehogs back at any time but there are no refunds and no money will be given. NO REFUND on cage setups or cage accessories!

In the event that we have an adult or juvenile hedgehog available they are placed or sold with no health guarantee. These are often hedgehogs not bred by us, but in all cases will be wonderful pets - that is how we select them!
